Outpatient Care Supports Recovery

Our outpatient eating disorder treatment program helps you gain insight and develop recovery skills. Some people enter the outpatient program when they first come to The Emily Program, while others need residential or partial hospitalization/intensive outpatient treatment first and then step down into outpatient. In addition to the recovery work you’ll be doing, you can continue or re-establish everyday activities like work or school. Outpatient eating disorder treatment is available at each of our convenient locations in Georgia, Minnesota, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, or Washington or within a secure virtual environment.

Outpatient Eating Disorder Treatment Programs at The Emily Program

The Emily Program’s outpatient eating disorder treatment programs are crafted to support individuals of all age groups and genders on their path to recovery. Our outpatient care is compassionate and comprehensive, and recognizes the distinct challenges and needs of adults, young adults, teens, and children who require non-intensive support or who are stepping down from a higher level of care of eating disorder treatment. Our individualized approach integrates the most effective, evidence-based practices in eating disorder therapy, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and family-based treatment (FBT), tailored to address the unique needs of each client.

Our personalized outpatient eating disorder therapy services include individual collaborative sessions with licensed specialists, group therapy to cultivate a community of non-judgmental understanding and support, and family therapy to engage loved ones in the recovery journey. Nutrition education and necessary medical and psychiatric services ensure a well-rounded approach to healing. We are dedicated to providing our clients in outpatient care with the knowledge, tools, and multidisciplinary support essential for lasting recovery from an eating disorder.

Eating Disorders Treated In Our Outpatient Programs

The Emily Program’s outpatient eating disorder treatment programs deliver an extensive array of personalized therapy options, meticulously crafted to address the full spectrum of eating disorders alongside any co-occurring mental health conditions. This ensures accessible, integrated care within a supportive and understanding environment. Our outpatient programs are places for whole-person healing.

Anorexia Nervosa

For those facing anorexia nervosa, characterized by an intense fear of weight gain and a distorted body image, our outpatient programs offer a reconnection to body and self. Our therapeutic modalities and supportive environment are designed to guide individuals toward recovery compassionately; we provide a nurturing setting tailored to each person’s journey.

Bulimia Nervosa

Individuals grappling with bulimia nervosa—marked by cycles of binge eating followed by compensatory behaviors like self-induced vomiting or excessive exercise—find specialized treatment strategies within our outpatient care. Our approach aims to help manage and surmount these challenges, offering a path to a peaceful relationship with food and body..

Binge Eating Disorder

Our outpatient services create a safe and inclusive space for those dealing with binge eating disorder, characterized by episodes of excessive food intake often triggered by negative emotions. Our programming uncovers and addresses the emotional triggers, promoting balance and emotional well-being.

Compulsive Overeating

Addressing the needs of individuals who engage in compulsive overeating calls for investigating the emotional distress that fuels this behavior. Our outpatient programs offer strategies to manage overeating triggers and cope with difficult emotions. This pattern of disordered eating, which can lead to intense guilt and shame, is met with understanding and tailored care.

We recognize that eating disorders don’t always fit neatly into one category. That’s why our outpatient treatment programs are personalized to meet the varied needs of those with OSFED (Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder). All of the life-limiting conditions and symptoms associated with OSFED receive attention and expert care within our outpatient setting.

Programming that addresses the challenges specific to the eating and feeding disturbances of ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) is essential to a successful recovery. Outpatient treatment at The Emily Program ensures a comprehensive and inclusive approach with ARFID-specific treatment goals.

Through our outpatient eating disorder treatment programs, The Emily Program is committed to offering a pathway to recovery that is both compassionate and personalized, providing each individual receives the support and care they need to heal.
