Outpatient & Day Treatment for Adults and Adolescents

The Emily Program has earned widespread recognition for its compassionate and individualized method of addressing the multifaceted issue of eating disorders. Our Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), and outpatient mental health services in Washington state are fundamental components of our therapeutic services, offering adaptable programs that cater to the specific needs of each person.

Our IOP program in Seattle, Washington, fuses scientifically backed therapies, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), with nutritional education and guidance, group therapy, and other supportive activities. This combination guarantees an inclusive treatment experience that addresses not just the physical aspects of eating disorders but also the mental, emotional, and behavioral factors.

At The Emily Program, we believe in early intervention and specialized treatment in eating disorder recovery. We encourage you to complete our self-assessment quiz, which can serve as a preliminary step in understanding whether it’s the right time to seek professional help. We are always here for you, primed to offer the support, care, and expertise you require on your road toward recovery.

Whenever you feel prepared, you can contact us directly at 1-888-364-5977 to arrange an assessment. We are devoted to standing beside you, providing the finest possible care, and assisting you in regaining your life from the control of an eating disorder.

Eating disorders treated at our Seattle, Washington location

The Emily Program’s Seattle outpatient location offers a warm and supportive environment for healing. Our integrated treatment programs ensure a comprehensive path to recovery, addressing both eating disorders and co-occurring mental health issues.

  • Anorexia Nervosa: Defined by an intense drive for thinness, leading to food restriction and a low body weight
  • Bulimia Nervosa: Identified by distressing cycles of binge eating and purging behaviors, often escalating and becoming compulsive over time
  • Binge Eating Disorder (BED): Defined by repeated episodes of consuming excessively large quantities of food, a loss of control, and feelings of self-disgust and guilt

Recognizing that food struggles extend beyond the eating disorder diagnoses, The Emily Program addresses various disordered eating behaviors, including compulsive overeating. With our compassionate approach and tailored treatment plans, we stand alongside you on your unique path toward healing.

Components of our Seattle outpatient treatment program:

Group Psychotherapy:

Group therapy at The Emily Program emphasizes the power of peer support. Our skilled therapists guide small groups through recovery-focused topics and allow space for open sharing and emotional processing. You’ll benefit from the collective wisdom and strength of the group, learning effective ways to manage triggers and setbacks.

Family Therapy:

Our approach to family therapy is rooted in the understanding that recovery from an eating disorder involves more than just the individual; it includes the entire family. By adopting the family-based treatment (FBT) model, we’ll equip your family with the skills and knowledge to actively participate in your healing, reinforcing the notion that they are not the cause of your illness but rather a central part of the cure.

Nutrition Therapy:

At The Emily Program, we emphasize the enjoyment of eating, recognizing the role of food in social connections, celebrations, pleasure, and so much more. Our dietitians are dedicated to supporting individualization and personal choice in eating, enabling nourishment and promoting your recovery.

Medical Care:

Our outpatient medical team specializes in monitoring and managing health concerns specific to eating disorders, such as electrolyte imbalances and nutritional deficiencies. Regular health assessments and personalized care plans ensure you receive the medical support you need while maintaining your daily activities, providing a seamless integration of treatment into your day-to-day life.

Psychiatric Care:

Our psychiatrists specialize in treating eating disorders alongside conditions such as anxiety and depression, promoting a mind-body approach to recovery.  If medication is part of your treatment plan, they’ll expertly guide you through its complexities, ensuring that any prescriptions support your overall recovery without overshadowing the critical emotional and behavioral aspects.

Experiential Activities:

The Emily Program’s therapeutic-supported meals and snacks do more than nourish your body—they transform mealtime into a healing process. These guided eating experiences are designed to ease food anxiety, allowing you to overcome triggers and reclaim pleasure in shared meals.

Additional Therapies:

Our tailored treatment approaches include a variety of specialized therapies that facilitate deeper self-exploration and body awareness. These methods support your journey to recovery by engaging you in creative expression and physical activity, including:

  • Expressive Arts: Art-making in our supportive environment allows you to explore imperfection freely, fostering self-acceptance and a newfound confidence in your personal expression.
  • Movement Therapy: Our gentle approach to physical activity uses practices like yoga to honor and respect your body’s current state.
