Sarah Bergen

Sarah Bergen (she/her) is the Medical Director of The Emily Program’s Ohio locations, working closely with the Site Director, Senior Regional Director, and medical lead to ensure the best quality care for clients, and provide support to the amazing medical and psychiatry staff. 

Sarah has been with The Emily Program for over seven years, first as the psychiatric provider in Spokane, Washington, covering partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), and outpatient programming before she moved back home to Ohio. Sarah was in Columbus as The Emily Program opened its second Ohio location in 2020. She worked with clients in residential care for two years before her transition to Medical Director.

After struggling with her own eating disorder as a late teen and young adult, Sarah pursued a master’s degree in nursing at The Ohio State University. She became a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with the sole purpose of working with those affected by eating disorders. Aside from educating and empowering her clients through psychopharmacology, her favorite part of the job is seeing that spark of hope when a client realizes recovery is possible. 

When not at work, Sarah likes to spend time hiking or walking with her rescue dog, Louie, checking out new restaurants and bars in Columbus, completing DIY home projects, and spending time with her parents, siblings, and their significant others.
