Regional Medical Director, Cleveland

Dr. Monique Howard (she/her), DNP, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, is The Emily Program’s Regional Medical Director of Cleveland. Within her role, Dr. Howard focuses on treating adolescents with eating disorders and mental health comorbidities, aligning with her passion for restoring adolescents’ physical and psychological balance and well-being. She serves on the senior leadership team and is based out of the Cleveland outpatient office in Beachwood, Ohio.

Dr. Howard’s educational journey began in Albany, New York, at Excelsior College, where she earned her Associate Degree in Nursing. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Malone College, a Master of Science in Family Primary Care, and a Post-Master’s certification in Psychiatric Mental Health from Ursuline College. In 2023, Dr. Howard completed her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Aspen University, where her dissertation focused on the benefits of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) for adolescents struggling with suicidal ideation and self-harm behaviors.

Dr. Howard is dual-certified in family primary care and mental health and has over three decades of nursing experience. She began her career as a trauma nurse at Huron Hospital in 2001, where she honed her skills in high-pressure environments, setting the stage for her distinguished journey.

During her 20-year tenure at the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Howard worked in various specialties, including trauma, critical care, and psychiatric nursing. She also served as the Senior Clinical Nursing Manager at the Visiting Nurse Association of Cleveland, where she cultivated a love for caring for underserved populations. Dr. Howard pursued her passion for educating and training the next generation of nurses while working as a nursing instructor at Cuyahoga Community College.

An advocate for underserved populations, Dr. Howard is involved in professional organizations, including the Ohio Association of Advanced Practices Nurses (OAANP), the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), DNPs of Color (DOC), and Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing. Dr. Howard remains dedicated to delivering compassionate and holistic care and embodying empathy, advocacy, and excellence in healthcare.

Outside work, she enjoys travel, the ocean, exotic cars, and time with her family and friends.
