Sara Hofmeier


Executive Director

Sara Hofmeier (she/her) serves as Executive Director of The Emily Program’s Triangle Child, Adolescent & Adult Eating Disorder Treatment Center in Durham and our Child, Adolescent & Adult Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. Sara believes in a collaborative and strengths-based approach to treatment. She particularly enjoys providing a non-judgmental space to help clients find new ways to describe their experiences and struggles as they move toward recovery.

Sara is a Licensed Professional Counselor, earning her master’s in counseling from the University of North Carolina Greensboro. Sara has been working with clients with eating disorders since 2007. Before joining The Emily Program, Sara was the Clinical Director of the UNC Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders (CEED) and served as an Assistant Professor.

Sara has experience providing individual, group, and family therapy for clients with eating disorders across multiple levels of care, including inpatient, partial hospitalization, and outpatient treatment settings. In addition to her experience in direct client care, Sara has extensive experience providing supervision and training to new therapists. She is passionate about providing supervision around the care and treatment of client with eating disorders.

Sara strongly believes in an evidence-informed approach to best-practice treatment. She pulls from several therapeutic styles in her work with clients and families with eating disorders, including dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and the Maudsley model of family-based therapy (FBT).
