in Durham, North Carolina

Contact us about in-person and virtual eating disorder treatment options.

Our Triangle-Durham, NC treatment center specializes in exceptional age-appropriate care for people of all ages with eating disorders of all types. We have meticulously designed our PHP, IOP, and outpatient programs to cater specifically to the needs of children, adolescents, and adults, understanding that each age group faces unique challenges on their path to recovery. With a personalized approach, we ensure you receive the highest level of support and expertise during your treatment stay.

Children and Adolescents

  • Age-appropriate multidisciplinary care: Adolescence is a critical time for physical, emotional, and mental development. Our tailored treatment plans for children and adolescents are designed with this in mind. We focus on promoting healthy growth, strong bones, and brain development, while also addressing the behavioral and psychological challenges of eating disorders. Our comprehensive approach incorporates evidence-based therapies such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and family-based treatment (FBT).

In addition, our program integrates eating disorder-specific psychiatric, medical, and nutritional rehabilitation. Our culinary and nutritional programming is led by chefs and dietitians, and we also provide expressive art and movement therapy as part of our holistic approach to treatment.
  • Family involvement: Family involvement is the cornerstone of successful eating disorder recovery, especially for children and teens. Our treatment programs integrate family therapy and caregiver education to provide essential support and understanding. By creating a strong alliance between the family and our team, we empower your loved one to find their way back to health.

Adults

  • Care for where you are: Whether you have been struggling with an eating disorder for years or have recently received a diagnosis, our adult program is meant to address your unique needs.
  • Support for complex psychological issues: Many adults struggle with complex factors such as trauma, co-occurring mental health conditions, or longstanding behavioral patterns. Our experienced team offers targeted support and evidence-based therapies to address the root causes of your eating disorder and set you on the path to long-term healing.
  • Consideration of your unique life stage: Adults face significant challenges in various areas of their lives, such as career, relationships, and identity. An eating disorder can impact these crucial aspects of adulthood. Our holistic approach to care takes into account how your eating disorder intersects with your career goals, personal relationships, and overall sense of self.

Regardless of age, our goal is to provide a compassionate and supportive environment where individuals can find solace, understanding, and the path to lasting recovery.

Eating Disorders Treated at The Emily Program’s Triangle-Durham Location

In the heart of North Carolina, The Emily Program’s Triangle treatment center offers a beacon of hope for those struggling with eating disorders. At Triangle, we welcome children, adolescents, and adults, providing a spectrum of in-person and virtual outpatient treatment options that offer the right balance of structure and support as you move through your recovery. Here, we nurture a diverse and inclusive environment that addresses the full range of eating disorders and respects the complexities of each individual’s journey.

  • Anorexia Nervosa: Characterized by an intense fear of weight gain and a distorted body image, leading to extreme food restriction and dangerously low body weight
  • Bulimia Nervosa: Involves distressing cycles of binge eating followed by compensatory behaviors such as vomiting or laxative misuse to prevent weight gain
  • Binge Eating Disorder (BED): Marked by recurrent episodes of eating large quantities of food, often quickly and to the point of discomfort, accompanied by feelings of shame or guilt

We treat less common but equally serious eating disorders with the same rigor and dedication as more well-known disorders. This commitment extends to targeting specific disordered eating behaviors, such as compulsive overeating. Our goal is to equip every individual and their community of support with the skills necessary to continue recovery and thrive in their home environment.

Eating Disorder Treatment Services Provided at Triangle-Durham include:
