Eating Disorders Treated at Our Minnesota Locations

The Emily Program’s Minnesota sites provide comprehensive and specialized treatment options for all types of eating disorders and related mental health conditions.

In the case of anorexia nervosa, individuals often experience a significant fear of weight gain, coupled with a distorted body image, often leading to critical malnutrition.

Bulimia nervosa is another disorder for which The Emily Program’s Minnesota locations offer treatment. Bulimia is characterized by episodes of excessive food consumption followed by compensatory behaviors such as self-induced vomiting or excessive physical activity intended to maintain or prevent changes in weight.

The Emily Program’s Minnesota treatment centers also address binge eating disorder, a condition marked by recurrent episodes of excessive food intake and a loss of control, often triggered as a response to negative emotions. Learn about our specialized programming for binge eating disorder, CARE IOP, which is offered to clients in Minnesota.

We specialize in helping people with Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), as well. This condition results in eating disruptions, such as inflexible eating habits and fear-based food avoidance. Unlike anorexia, ARFID is not driven by a desire for thinness.

The Emily Program’s Minnesota locations are also equipped to provide treatment for Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorders (OSFED), a name given to eating disorders that don’t meet the specific criteria of other disorders. Like all eating disorders, we know that OSFED requires an individualized treatment plan designed to target each individual’s specific eating disorder presentation and symptoms.

Compulsive overeating is another focus area at our Minnesota sites. A symptom of binge eating disorder, bulimia, and/or OSFED, compulsive overeating involves repeated episodes of excessive food intake that are not necessarily tied to physical hunger and often occur in response to daily stressors or triggering emotions.
