Staff Spotlight, Fiona Polzin
Tell us about yourself!
Hi, my name is Fiona (she/her), and I’m the Admissions Team Lead! I first started with The Emily Program in 2020 as a Behavioral Health Technician at one of our residential locations, and for the past two years, I have been part of the admissions team.
What does a typical day look like for you at The Emily Program?
Every day in Admissions, we connect with clients seeking care and assist them as they take the brave first step toward getting help. I support the team of admissions specialists by talking with clients, parents, and providers about The Emily Program’s care options and scheduling intake assessments.
What is one of your favorite holiday traditions?
I love movie nights with my friends or family. Every holiday season, we watch festive winter movies together. We typically watch the same movies year after year, but recently we have been watching some movies that were previously overlooked or that are newly released. This is my favorite tradition because the cozy movie night atmosphere makes the Minnesota winter more enjoyable!
What’s something you’re really proud of?
I’m currently a student in graduate school for my Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology, with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy. I am proud of the work I’ve done in continuing my education and now pursuing a career as a therapist. It’s rewarding to be able to work and do school full-time, and align my profession with my values.
What do you like to do when you aren’t working?
The outdoors is my happy place! I love adventuring through state and national parks. My best vacations are taking in views of nature and wildlife and exploring hiking trails. I go camping in the summer and fall, but when it gets too cold here in Minnesota, I like to visit coffee shops and start planning my trips for the following year.
