We are pleased to share that The Emily Program’s adolescent residential program in Columbus, Ohio has opened its doors! At the 16-bed licensed facility, children and adolescents ages 10–18 can access highly structured, intensive eating disorder treatment in a safe, supportive, and comfortable setting.
By expanding residential programming in the region, we further our commitment to increasing access to personalized and multidisciplinary eating disorder treatment. The new program completes our continuum of care options for children and adolescents of all genders in central Ohio. It comes at a time when the need for specialty treatment has never been greater.
“We’re very excited to bring this residential program to Columbus, especially with the increase in hospitalizations for eating disorders among children and adolescents we’ve seen throughout the pandemic,” said Dr. Jillian Lampert, The Emily Program’s Chief Strategy Officer. “Eating disorders are serious illnesses, but we also know they are highly treatable. Access to effective care at the appropriate level is critical. Residential treatment isn’t widely available in the region, so we’re pleased to be able to meet that need.”
The new adolescent residential program is located in the Ravines Edge building that also houses our outpatient and day treatment programs for adolescents and adults. All levels of adolescent care are now conveniently provided at the same location, a recently renovated building nestled in a large wooded area.
Residential treatment includes the following components:
All of our residential programs are places of hope and healing where clients can focus on recovery in a contemporary homelike environment with around-the-clock care. This intensive level of care allows clients in need of highly structured support to pursue recovery in an environment appropriate to their situation. “Residential treatment is the best option for many individuals struggling with severe symptoms or those who require more structure and support than an outpatient facility can provide,” said Dr. Mark Warren, Chief Medical Officer of The Emily Program. “At this level of care, a multidisciplinary team of physicians, therapists, dietitians, and other health and education professionals work together to achieve medical, psychological, and nutritional stability. Residential treatment also equips clients with the skills to continue recovery at lower levels of care and within their own support system.”
The Emily Program now has three residential facilities that provide eating disorder services to adolescents. In addition to the new Columbus program, we offer 24/7 adolescent residential treatment at two Minnesota locations: the Anna Westin House for Adolescents in St. Paul and the Anna Westin House West for Adolescents and Young Adults in Minneapolis.
