Your Care Team

Clinically reviewed by Jillian Lampert, PhD, MPH, RD, LD, FAEDLast reviewed August 27, 2026

At The Emily Program, you’re surrounded by a team of experts who understand eating disorders—and who care deeply about helping you heal.

No two people experience an eating disorder in the same way. That’s why we build every treatment plan around your unique needs, goals, and strengths. From your first day to long-term recovery, your multidisciplinary care team walks with you every step of the way.

How Your Care Team Supports You

Your treatment team works together to address all aspects of your health—medical, nutritional, emotional, and psychological. Collaboration and compassion are at the heart of our approach.

Your Primary Team Members

  • Therapist (Primary Clinician)

Your therapist coordinates your overall care. They’ll help you explore thoughts and emotions connected to food, body image, and self-worth, while teaching healthy coping skills and relapse-prevention strategies.

  • Dietitian (Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, RDN)

Your dietitian helps rebuild your relationship with food through individualized meal planning, education, and ongoing nutritional counseling. They’ll guide you toward balance, nourishment, and confidence around eating.

  • Medical Provider (Physician, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant)

Eating disorders affect the whole body. Our medical providers evaluate, diagnose, and monitor your physical health—tracking vitals, lab work, and medical stability throughout treatment.

  • Psychiatrist / Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Many clients experience co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, depression, or OCD. Psychiatrists provide comprehensive mental-health evaluation and medication management when needed.

Specialized and Integrative Providers

Depending on your level of care and individual goals, your treatment plan may also include:

  • Family or Couples Therapist

Supports loved ones’ involvement in recovery and helps strengthen family communication.

  • Group Therapist

Leads therapy groups where clients connect, share experiences, and build recovery skills.

  • Expressive Arts or Recreational Therapist

Uses creative and movement-based interventions (yoga, art, or mindfulness) to promote emotional healing.

  • Occupational Therapist

Helps restore daily-living skills, structure, and independence in recovery.

  • Case Manager or Care Coordinator

Connects you with community resources, assists with insurance logistics, and ensures continuity between levels of care

  • Peer or Alumni Support

Offers lived-experience mentorship for additional motivation and hope.

These professionals collaborate continually, meeting as a team to adjust care plans and share insights about your progress. This integrated model is what makes The Emily Program’s outcomes among the best in the nation.

What to Expect From Your Team

Eating disorders require a treatment approach as multifaceted as the disorders themselves. At The Emily Program, we follow a multidisciplinary model, meaning your physical health, emotional well-being, and behavioral recovery are treated together—not separately.

  • Personalized care plan tailored to your diagnosis, preferences, and life circumstances.
  • Weekly multidisciplinary reviews to track progress and adapt treatment.
  • Transparent communication between clinicians, clients, and families.
  • Continuity of care as you transition between levels (Residential → PHP → IOP → Outpatient).
  • Empathy and accountability—your team celebrates your progress and supports you through challenges.

“Recovery isn’t a straight line. That’s why our teams walk beside you, adjusting treatment with compassion and expertise at every turn.”

Your Role in the Team

You are an essential member of your own care team. Together with your providers, you’ll set goals, review progress, and make decisions about your recovery journey. We encourage clients to ask questions, express preferences, and take an active role in shaping their treatment experience.

Family Collaboration

Families are powerful allies in healing. Depending on the program, family participation may include:

  • Family therapy sessions and education groups
  • Regular communication with your child’s therapist or dietitian
  • Parent skills training to reinforce recovery at home

Our teams equip families with tools to build empathy, structure, and ongoing support long after treatment ends.

A Day With Your Care Team

A typical day in treatment might include:

  • Morning medical and vitals check with your provider
  • Breakfast and supported meals with your dietitian
  • Individual therapy and group sessions
  • Family therapy (in some programs)
  • Evening reflection or skills group

Every touchpoint reinforces recovery—helping you rebuild trust in food, body, and self.

Special Training and Philosophy

All Emily Program clinicians receive training in:

  • Trauma-informed and gender-inclusive care
  • Culturally responsive treatment
  • Harm-reduction and weight-neutral approaches
  • Evidence-based therapies like CBT, DBT, FBT, and ACT
